We must ensure students feel safe, cared for, motivated, and excited while attending Charlotte County schools.

Students of all ages are faced with unending testing, ever-evolving social lives, and changing conceptions of the world. All this weighs on our students more than they tell us. Support structures for students of all ages need to be implemented and monitored to help guide them through the challenges of growing up.

Suicide is a serious issue facing young people and one increasingly relevant to Charlotte County.

We need to continue work with the Department of Health to offer support and education to our students and their families. Suicide is never the right choice. We need to bring this issue into the light to stop continued, preventable tragedies.

As a member of your Charlotte County School Board, I will push to provide better mental health training to all members of the staff to ensure they can recognize and solve a problem before it is too late.

“A child’s mental health is just as important as their physical health and deserves the same quality of support.” -Kate Middleton
