School culture is a delicate balance between principal and staff that must be well maintained. Charlotte County Public Schools’ vision is, “One Voice. One Team. One Message.”
Despite this, teachers feel their voices are not heard. The culture in our schools is highly inconsistent with the district’s stated goals. My personal experiences and interviews with educators have shown me that teachers and staff feel overworked, undervalued, and unheard.
Step wage increases, health insurance costs, the Value Added Model, constant testing, and lack of autonomy and resources in the classroom have pushed our teachers to their breaking points. On your School Board, I will ensure the district takes concrete steps to improve its treatment of teachers and build a relationship founded on trust and openness. My experience as an educator will provide a perspective on the School Board that is all too often overlooked.
